ANNUAL REPORT 2020-2022

SOCIAL IMPACT

Strategy, Management, Evaluation

While the world grappled with and fought the dire impacts of Covid-19, we at 4th Wheel were committed to offering technical support and mobilising resources for those at the forefront of providing development assistance.

We had the opportunity to work with commendable organisations and professionals on program design and results-based, impact strategies. We helped build robust data monitoring and management systems for organisations that had to make 360-degree pivots from on-field implementation to virtual program delivery. Through evaluation studies, we were able to offer evidence-based recommendations on strengthening program strategy, implementation, and social impact, in the context of Covid-19 realities.

Impact assessments to offer data driven insights

Evaluation studies were structured along the OECD-DAC criteria of relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, and sustainability.

All assessments had an improvement purpose, to assess the degree to which the program has achieved its intended impact and outcomes, and to inform course corrective actions in the delivery of programs; a learning purpose, to retrieve lessons learned from the project to scale projects or design interventions for new project cycles; and a communication purpose to inform stakeholders (community, internal teams, donors) about the progress and social impact created through the program.

MEAL frameworks to streamline M&E processes

Organisations were aided in creating  Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEAL) frameworks. We worked with organisations on program strategy and review, assisted them in developing Theory of Change diagramming with aligned indicator tracking grids and conducted baseline studies that set the base for program monitoring. Our work also spanned research tools, analysis plans, and dashboard development.

Data management systems for strategic decision making

Our data management consulting projects involved working with organisations and their teams to adopt a strategic and technology aided approach to data collection, processing, analysis and reporting.

We built data management systems which helped identify the most useful and feasible research tools to collect data. These systems helped to set timelines and targets among teams to bring about desired change in communities. Dashboards we developed visualised tangible and quantitative results for teams and leadership to make decisions based on real-time results.

Innovative communication mediums for effective stakeholder dialogue

We helped organisations to share impact results and stories with their external and internal stakeholders; moving beyond long verbose reports to using short form video content, infographics, iterative workshops and presentations.

We supported organisations in strengthening their behavioural change programs and strategies among local communities by ideating and producing audio, text and video messaging content on themes of health and hygiene, water and sanitation, education and livelihoods, etc. All consulting and research projects focused on using new age communication forms to visualize data, share stories, and fuel cross-learning.

Training and strategy sessions to capacitate professionals

In partnership with reputed CSR and NGO knowledge platforms, multiple training sessions were conducted with professionals working in the development sector.

Training topics included results-based frameworks, indicator development, sampling, tools and methods, data management and analysis, communication for development, and others. These peer learning opportunities enabled development professionals to understand and build key elements for monitoring and evaluation functions of their organization.
