Key Highlights

• Social Value International and 4th Wheel Social Impact jointly organised an online webinar on Social Return on Investment (SROI), where the values and processes followed to undertake an SROI study were discussed.

• The webinar looked into how social value and SROI can assist with reporting and impact management.

• The learnings were backed by a case study from a large Indian conglomerate that undertook an SROI study for its Education projects.

Approach

The live and interactive session on SROI consisted of a presentation which was a mix of concept explanations, real-time examples, followed by a Question and Answer (Q&A) session.

Insights and Findings

• SROI is a systematic way of incorporating social, economic, environmental and other values into decision-making processes.

• The fundamental principles of SROI include the involvement of stakeholders, inclusion of material aspects, avoidance of overclaim, transparency, and verification of results. Participants were taken through a case study of an integrated slum development program to describe application of these principles.

• The entire process of monetising change in people’s lives as part of SROI- identifying stakeholders, outcome mapping, evidencing outcomes, establishing impact, calculating SROI, and usage of results, were explored via another case study.

Recommendations / Value Addition

• Participants were equipped with a conceptual understanding of SROI, along with the vocabulary to apply this methodology within their organisations.

• Following the webinar, participants received access to a range of learning resources and templates to further their understanding and to apply the SROI methodology in future scenarios.
